About Lena C. Schaffer, M.D.
Doctor Schaffer believes in a preventive and restorative approach to health. For patients experiencing symptoms, she firmly believes it is important to thoroughly seek and address the underlying cause of the symptoms, rather than only focusing on symptom relief.
She feels that symptoms should be thought of as “messengers” warning us that something is out of balance in the body. Instead of simply focusing on suppressing the symptom (i.e. “killing the messenger”) with synthetic prescription drugs, we should listen to the message, so as to find and eliminate the root cause of the problem.
She believes many of the diseases of aging, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer’s disease, are associated with age-related hormonal decline.
Dr. Schaffer has seen that optimizing hormone levels with Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) can help to restore youthful vitality, and may prevent, minimize or delay many age-related diseases.
Personal Experience with Bioidentical Hormone Therapy
Dr. Schaffer’s interest in BHRT became even stronger a few years ago when she herself began experiencing symptoms of hormonal decline. After extensive research of the various treatment options available, she decided BHRT was best for her personally, and she has been astonished at the positive difference it has made in her life.
She has experienced significant improvements in energy level, mood, and sleep quality and exercise endurance. She has also noticed a loss of body fat, and has been able to maintain a healthier body weight, a problem she had struggled with for years. Overall, she has been AMAZED at her dramatic results, and is now even more passionate about this area of medicine.
She has actively pursued further study and training in the areas of Age-Management Medicine, Restorative Medicine and BHRT, to include formal courses taught by numerous experts in these areas of medicine. She is a diplomat of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M).
Dr. Schaffer received her medical degree from the University Of Florida College Of Medicine in Gainesville. She then completed an Internship in Internal Medicine, and worked as a primary care physician, before beginning a residency program in Diagnostic Radiology. She is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Diagnostic Radiologist.
